The Larry David Sandwich is the first episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 5. It is the forty-first episode overall.

Description[]

Larry has a near-death experience when he almost drowns, and briefly becomes religiously Jewish. At his favorite deli, Leo's, the owner, Leo has named a sandwich after him but Larry is disgusted by the contents: onions, capers, white fish, sable and cream cheese. He tries to get Ted Danson to switch sandwiches with him but he is unwilling to do it. Larry's father Nat David eats the whitefish but has a bizarre reaction to it and has to be rushed to the hospital, where he says in a muffled voice, something similar to "You're adopted" to Larry. Larry also worries about his father's surgeon who seems to have the "yips" on the golf course.

Production[]

Larry's swimming incident, in particular the idea that a divinely directed wave pushed him safely to shore, was inspired by Cat Stevens's 1976 near-drowning.[1]
